What is The Slow Work?

Thus says the Lord: Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way lies; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, “We will not walk in it.”

-Jeremiah 6:16

The Slow Work is a ministry born out of a desire to be where Jesus is. In Matthew 25, Jesus tells his followers that when they have fed the hungry, shown hospitality to the stranger, clothed the naked, attended to the sick, and visited the prisoner, that they have done these things for Jesus himself. If we want to be with Jesus, we need to be with the least, the lost, and the uninvited. Our mission in Yorkshire is two fold:

First, we serve the least through our work at Caring For Life. Caring For Life provides purpose, dignity, community, and so much more to vulnerable adults in the Leeds area. Through our work leading the Expressive Arts Therapeutic Program, and our work in the Farm Store, we get to share the love of Christ with a population that is largely overlooked. Here is a short video that shows some of the goings on at Caring For Life.

Second, we show hospitality to the uninvited through our work with Otley Parish Church. England is a land with a rich history of Christian faith, and active, vibrant churches. But over the centuries, many have forgotten, walked away from, or never even heard of the Gospel of Jesus. People are not walking on the good way. Our role is to stand at the crossroads, to come alongside those who have forgotten, and invite them back to the ancient path, to the Jesus Way.
